Welcome to Age Concern Gateshead, working with and for older people within Gateshead.
Our Aim is to promote the welfare of older people throughout the Borough of Gateshead, and add life to years and years to life!
From Monday 11th January we will be running weekly, user-led social groups aimed at people aged 65+ who have mental health problems. The group will help each other with difficulties, offer a listening ear and support you to speak up.
The groups will include:
- Guest speakers
- Information
- Occasional outings
- Refreshments
- Mutual support & friendship
- Holistic therapies
Ladies' Group
Mondays 10 am-12 noon
Men's Group
Mondays 1.30-3.30pm
The groups will take place in our Resource & Information Centre on Gateshead High Street.

Volunteer Short Walks Leaders needed
Could you help promote a healthy and active lifestyle by leading short walks of approximately 4-5 miles?
Our volunteer walk leaders support a small, friendly walking group, either leading a walk themselves or supporting another walk leader.
The role involves:
• encouraging walkers to maintain a reasonable pace
• facilitating a sociable and friendly atmosphere
• carrying out a recce of proposed walk routes
For this role you will need:
• a good level of health and fitness
• a good sense of humour
• empathy for older people
• ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative
• an approachable and friendly personality
You will receive Health Walks Gateshead training and will also need to attend a First Aid course.
